[EDWARD VIII (1894-1972, King of Great Britain, Later the Duke of Windsor)]

Unsigned Stereoscopic Portrait Photograph, by Realistic Travels, showing him nearly full length, full face, in Captain's uniform, his cap slightly tilted, his right foot resting on a bench "in the gardens of the Chateau which was his Headquarters in France", published "by Royal Command" by Realistic Travels Company, 4½" x 7", no place, no date, circa publisher's letterpress a little rubbed

The Prince enlisted on August 7th 1914 and arrived in France that November. He spent WWI in France and Flanders as a Staff Captain at various HQs, apart from visits to Egypt and Italy, in all sectors visiting the troops at the front as often as he could, on bicycle or in a royal Daimler. This could be dangerous (his driver was killed by shrapnel at Loos) and the Prince was awarded the M.C. in 1916.
