Background
In 1943 Princess Gina founded the Liechtenstein Red Cross, which helped many thousands of refugees and Allied prisoners from German prisoner of war camps. A skilled painter and sculptress, and a close friend of the British royal family, she shared with Prince Philip a love of driving four-in-hand. She died a few weeks before her husband, and over half the population of Liechtenstein lined her funeral route.
