(Sir William, 1815-1898, from 1861 Physician to Queen Victoria, from 1868 1st Baronet)
Autograph Letter Signed to Mr Holthouse
regretting that he is unable to accept your kind invitation for 31st inst. Wishing you success in your undertaking..., 1 side 8vo., 63 Brook Street, Grosvenor Square, 25th July
Item Date: 1875
Background
Sir William first clearly distinguished typhus and typhoid fevers, and was President of the Royal College of Physicians 1881-1888.
The recipient is almost certainly the distinguished ophthalmologist and surgeon Mr Carsten HOLTHOUSE (1810-1901), a medical colleague of Jenner’s. Both were original members of the Pathological Society of London, and both were fellows of the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society of London.
