Background
His son George Philip WELLS (1901-1985) was a zoologist and author. He was known to all by his nickname, Gip, and appears by this name in his father's fictional story "The Magic Shop".
It is not surprising that H. G. Wells would ask his recipient if he has run into his son Gip, as he had been at Gonville and Caius College and Jennings White at Trinity College. After leaving Cambridge they both went on to University College London.
