(Walter, 1845-1915, Painter and Illustrator)
Autograph Letter with the signature removed to Mr Brailsford
saying that his letter has found him in Wales, and that he is “very willing to have my name added to the memorial to Italy in the cause of Michael Gotz & in the interest of the preservation of the right of asylum & freedom. It is perfectly monstrous that a brave and innocent man should be hounded down like that. Hopefully I am in time to have my name added to the others & that you will get a very strongly signed memorial...” with a postscript that he “was glad to have been of service to your pamphlet on Ireland, the prospects seem to brighten - economically...”, 2 sides 8vo., Llandudno, N. CRANE WRITES ON DESIGNING A MACE FOR THE SUFFRAGETTES
CRANE
(Walter, 1845-1915, Painter and Illustrator)
Autograph Letter Signed to Mrs SCRATCHERD
(Alice Cliff, 1842-1906, early British Suffragist) thanking her for her letter “& in reply beg to say that I shall be willing to design the mace you speak of. My fee for the design & working drawings would probably be about...” the figures has been removed, “If however, I made a complete model of it for the silversmith it would be about as much again. Though, of course, much would depend upon the amount of detail & invention introduced. I have no doubt I could get you an estimate for supplying the mace complete in silver & enamels or in silver-gilt if you preferred? If, again you preferred to name a limit of the amount you wished to spend upon the work one might be able to estimate upon that...”, 3 sides 8vo., 13 Holland St, Kensington, headed paper with his stylised Crane, 24th April
