saying that she had "an idea of sending you this note by Mai, but I have just heard that it is against regulations" so explaining the delay in thanking her for "the divine and useful cigarette boxes which add so considerably to the décor of this ugly house ...", she says that she "loved having Mai here, a breath from the world of human beings, she ... has had a sad time ... there are so few people here and really nothing to do with the hotels closed ...
