Fine Document Signed to the President of Peru, Manuel PARDO, 1834-1878, President 1872-1876), in English, signed also by the 15th Earl of Derby, (1826-1893), as foreign secretary, saying that "Having nothing more at heart than to cultivate ... the Friendship and good Understanding which happily subsist between Great Britain and the Republic of Peru", she has thought proper to accredit "Our Trusty and Well-beloved Spenser ST JOHN Esquire", (1826-1910), as Minister-resident, and doubts not that "he will merit your approbation" by the strict observance of his instructions "to evince to you Our ... sincere desire ... to preserve and advance on all occasions the interests and happiness of both nations", requesting "that you will give entire Credence to all that he may say ... in Our Name, especially when ... he shall assure You of Our Esteem and Regard ... and ... sincere wishes for the Welfare and Prosperity of the Republic", and recommending the President to "the Protection of the Almighty", 2 sides folio, (side 1 with thin black edges) and conjugate blank, Osborne, 2nd January
